PhD Colloquium 2019 – 2nd call

The Ph.D. Colloquium in the context of European and International Law will take place at the Europa-Institut of Saarland University, Saarbrücken (Germany), from 3 to 8 February 2020 (with travel days). It will be organized within the framework of the SEE | EU Cluster of Excellence in European and International Law project and supported by German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The Ph.D. Colloquium will be held in English language.

Eligible to apply for the Ph.D. Colloquium are Ph.D. candidates enrolled in or employed at one of the Cluster or SEELS partner faculties whose research includes topics related to European and International Law; meaning also European and International Economic Law, Protection of Human Rights, European Private Law and topics in the field of national Law with a strong connection to European or International Law. In exceptional cases also Post-Docs who finished there Ph.D. thesis latest 3 years ago are very welcomed.

The Ph.D. Colloquium will last for 4-5 days and focus on:

  1. Introduction and general part (research methods, how to publish, motivation, reference management programmes etc.)
  2. Presentation of Ph.D. or Post-doc research in EU Law, including European Procedural Law and Human Rights Law
  3. Presentation of Ph.D. and Post-doc research in European Private Law
  4. Presentations of Ph.D. or Post-doc research in European and International Economic Law
  5. Visit to the ECJ, Luxemburg

The Steering Committee of the SEE | EU Cluster of Excellence, consisting of representatives from partner faculties, will select the participants of the colloquium based on their research abstract and their CV. The research project abstract should be max. 10 pages long. All participants are obliged to hold an oral presentation of their research project, preferably focused on one or two specific problems.

Accommodation will be arranged by the Cluster of Excellence and the accommodation expenses will be borne by the organizers. The lump sums available for travel costs depends on the country where the participant is enrolled as a PhD candidate.

Any travel cost exceeding the indicated travel lump sums shall be borne by the participants themselves. The travel arrangements should be made by the participants themselves, assistance can be provided.

Participants will be invited to contribute and publish in the SEE | EU Cluster of Excellence in European and International Law – Series of Papers (SEE | EU Excellence in Law • Series of Papers) and the South East European Law Journal. Both of these are published in English and have an international editorial body. The research project abstract can be used as a basis for the final paper.

Each application shall include:

  1. Curriculum Vitae
  2. List of publications
  3. Abstract of the research topic of candidate´s dissertation (or the current research project) in English language of max 10 pp.
  4. Recommendation letter (not mandatory).

Deadline for submission of applications is 17 December 2019 23:59 ECT.
